In the gospel of Matthew we get a brief record of Jesus’ birth story. And in the account of his birth the main character is actually Joseph, Jesus’ adoptive father. Matthew’s aim is to show us that, through Joseph, this unexpected baby is in the royal line of David. Jesus is the king of kings that Israel has been awaiting, David’s son, who will forever sit on the throne.
