Mark’s gospel account does not have any of Jesus’ birth story. It jumps right into where Jesus begins his ministry. Mark wants to give his readers a foundation for the authority and power of Jesus to do all that he will do in his ministry. This is the Christ that has been long-awaited for hundreds of years. He has come!
And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.
